LARP (Live Action Role-Playing) campaigns are multi-session events where players carry the same character through a connected story. LarpManager, a free platform for managing LARP events, supports campaign mode, letting players use one character across all sessions.
Player-Created Characters with Staff Approval
Players create characters via LarpManager’s Player Editor. Organizers define custom fields, such as class, background or origin, and control which fields lock after approval. Submitted characters get a “Proposed” status, then staff review, request changes if needed, and approve final versions in the character approval flow. Only approved characters appear in the event gallery, ensuring quality control without manual entry. Characters created in a session will automatically appear in all later sessions - unless retired.
Custom Classes, Fields, and Attributes
Character forms are fully customizable. Organizers can create class-based abilities or define any number of fields for creation. Fields can be locked at approval, while leaving others editable, letting campaigns use traditional RPG elements without extra spreadsheets or manual tracking with computed fields and modifiers.
XP-Based Advancement and Purchasable Skills
LarpManager includes a full experience points (XP) system to track character growth. Organizers assign starting XP and distribute more after each session via the Delivery interface. Each ability has an XP cost and prerequisites; players spend XP to unlock abilities, with only valid options shown. This keeps growth organized and transparent for staff oversight.
Key Features of Campaign Mode
- Automatic campaign linking: share the character pool across events, linking them in a campaign.
- Player-created characters: custom forms capture background, class, and skills during signup.
- Staff review workflow: submissions must be approved; staff can request changes.
- XP and skills: award points after events and spend them on abilities with prerequisites.
- Flexible rules: automate stats or restrict skills with modifiers, default abilities, and costs.
Streamlined Administration
Built-in features reduce staff work and automate routine tasks. Player registration and character assignment are mostly self-service. Organizers avoid copying sheets or manually tracking XP. LarpManager’s interface and tutorials guide every setup step, from awarding XP to configuring ability prerequisites, giving full visibility of character status.
Getting Started
To launch a campaign, create the first event with character creation enabled. Then activate Campaign mode to link all subsequent events. Each new session imports the shared roster automatically. Enable Experience Points and Skills so characters gain XP and unlock abilities between sessions. LarpManager’s tutorials explain each step in detail, simplifying even complex setups.
